hmmm shes ok by me, I like the way she have dual wielding 'hands'
and dont forget that WOW didnt thought up the way of those hands, diablo 2 has exactly the same hands, and is called assasin, When the assasin arives in gw (2). i will make an assasin for sure, only i mind playing with a charr thats half naked all the time, she can be dressed tougher. Its fun to play with a half naked woman (i know ) but its a little fragile, ouch, a sword in my belly...
ahhhh, cant wait to sneek invisseble behind a mighty warrior and stab his neck down! MUAHAHAHAHA!!

LOL, I just remembered that old picture from AD & D: There is no honor among thieves.
But, remember, an Assassin is just a sub-class of Thief anyway!
(This is just to show all those trying to define an Assassin from some historical perspective are completely missing the point: This is a game, and the Assassin Profession will be more like a RPG Assassin, not a real one!)

Mordakai, if you read the story, you'll see that she seems to be acting more like a real life assasin (if you ignore the hashish) than a conventional rpg one. Conventional rpg assasins are typically real life "Ninja", who tended to group togother in closly knit clans (from what we know of them), which were family based. She seems to be in a order that has very little trust between members, and this seems more like a "real life" sort of assasin.
Rant follows:
Also, I don't get what people have with samuri. They were not "elite fighters" or anything. They were almost the same as knights were in feudal europe, some of them fought, some well and some badly.
Samuri were a class of people, ranging from what we would call knights all the way up to lords. In the same way that knights levied troops and fought for their lords samuri levied troops and fought for their lords. In the same way that knights owned land and estates and castles, samuri owned land, estates and castles.
So basically, samuri were not some sort of uber ancient japenese SS or SAS. They were the aristocracy that ran and owned the country.
(and before someone replies saying "that's not what they were, they were slightly different" this is a simplification)
When i read through the posts i was gonna talk some about the slicing/chopping/bleeding, but people got that fairly well covered. Anyway I will just point out that it is FAR easier to stab someone in the throat than it is to slice them there, unless you come from behind with a knife (if you do, and you hold their head DOWN, not up like in movies, then the blood vessels are brought in front of the trachea etc. and you can get at them by slicing up towards the head). Also, cutting along the inside of limbs usually gets enought arteries that if you wait they'll bleed to death, or at least become faint and easier to get at.
And to the guy who said that cutting didn't damage a katana, try again. The armour they wore in battle (and even your bones) mean that there is no way a sword could get through totally undamaged (Although it was possible to cut straight down someones head). They preferred to use someone else's sword if at all possible, even the guy they were attacking's sword.

Well, I was thinking of the Classic AD&D Assassin... the one that was banned from most of the games I played as a lad (come to think of it, the AD&D Assassin is probably the WORSE example of an RPG Assassin, so I take it back. After all, any Profession that has a % chance to kill an opponent outright will have serious balance issues).
So, let's go back to her Backstory:
She calls the one talking to her "Master." She never has seen his face. This implies a high degree of trust, (or possibly fear) of her Master to blindly follow orders. It even says, "Trust was something very few in the Conclave could afford."
She had done such missions before, she knew receiving the weapons was a sign the interview was over.
We can deduce this is a secret order that is highly organized and follows explicit rules ("Only kill the leader").
This is a nice backstory, but tells little of how this Profession will actually work. Now, I'm not saying the Backstory will mean nothing, it's possible that Chapter 2 will have more "character" behind it than Chapter 1.
I, for one, would like to see branching storylines, although this might be hard to do in a MMORPG setting, even with GW's unique instanced zones.
But, I'm getting seriously off track...
I guess my main point/question is having a Backstory is great, but how will it actually effect the nuts and bolts gameplay?
EDIT: Re-reading the story, I just thought of a cool idea:
Assassin Guilds. There are special "Guild Only" Missions. You can only be sent on these missions by your Guild Leader? The Guild as a whole would benefit from the missions by getting Items only available from these missions?
There would have to be some benefit to "Students" and some to the "Master", but this would be a great way to incorporate the flavor of the Assassin into the GW world.

Leave out all the good parts and put in all the bad parts, yeah, I guess thats probably why you don't get it.
Its not a simplification if you miss the whole point entirely.
If you are going to simplify it down, instead of all that stuff, try something like this instead:
Death before Dishonor, Loyalty, Bravery, etc.
Maybe they weren't elite/uber, but they were part of a warrior culture. Daily weapons training was expected of them, and that puts them quite a bit ahead of most military organizations these days.
In those days you "were" your combat ability, if you couldn't fight as a male then you were just taking up space, those who really excelled in combat were "the" role models, there were no other role models (uber warriors > Bill Gates for instance).
If you like that type of stuff, then maybe Samurai's are for you.

more cliches, and I'm sure underdeveloped gameplay to go with it. No thanks Anet, I learned my lesson with chapter 1.

I'm quite looking forward to seeing and playing this class, cos sounds very much like the assassin class in Morrowind (and other Bethesda rpgs).
As to the dance, well us girls get all the cool dances
